ECBA has settled the 2016 Pennsylvania recount case brought by presidential candidate Jill Stein and Pennsylvania voters. The lawsuit challenged Pennsylvania’s use of paperless voting systems, as well as its byzantine, anti-voter recount procedures. More here.

ECBA Settles Disability Wrongful Death Case for $2.25 Million

Ilann appeared on Inside City Hall with Linda Levy, CEO of the Lower East Side People’s Federal Credit Union. ECBA represents the credit union in its case challenging President Trump’s appointment of Michael Mulvaney as Acting Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

“[The CFPB] is being run by someone who should not be there, someone who is there illegally,” Mr. Maazel told NY1’s Errol Louis. “We’re in a state of absolute regulatory chaos.

ECBA Files Religious Discrimination Lawsuit Against Lucille Roberts

ECBA, along with co-counsel Michael Meth and Public Justice, has settled the Pine Bush anti-Semitic bullying case.  The comprehensive settlement requires significant reform to policies, training, curriculum, discipline, and tracking of anti-Semitic incidents, all under the oversight of the U.S. Department of Education and the federal court.

In its publication “Fabuleuse New York,” French magazine L’Express profiled prominent New Yorkers, including Woody Allen, Paul Auster, Diane von Furstenberg, and Ilann.

The family of K.C., a 22-year-old severely disabled man, settled a federal lawsuit in Albany against staff at the O.D. Heck Developmental Center, a New York State facility for the disabled. The lawsuit centered on the physical and verbal abuse K.C. suffered at the hands of the staff members.

After less than an hour of deliberations, a unanimous jury in Bronx Supreme Court found New York City and an NYPD Sergeant liable for the shooting death of 19-yr old Leonel Disla on October 30, 2005.

On August 31, 2011, in Seattle, Washington, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals heard argument in Shubert v. Obama, a case brought by ECBA on behalf of hundreds of thousands of Americans whose telephone and e-mail communications were subject to warrantless surveillance by the National Security Agency as part of a massive secret dragnet program. Ilann’s argument was later featured in the Oscar-Winning Documentary, Citizenfour.

This morning, the New York Times front page featured T.E. v. Pine Bush Central School District, a civil rights lawsuit brought by five Jewish students arising from years of pervasive anti-Semitic harassment and bullying in Pine Bush schools. The bullying included anti-Semitic slurs, Holocaust jokes, physical assaults, coin throwing, white power chants, Hitler salutes, and anti-Semitic graffiti on textbooks, lockers, walls, desks, and a classroom poster of President Obama.

ECBA filed a disability abuse suit on behalf of the son of New York Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg, himself a leading advocate for people with disabilities. The suit alleges abuse at a New York group home for the disabled.

ECBA and NSB Win $2.4 Million Verdict in NJ Wrongful Death/Police Shooting Case

ECBA and City Settle Case on Behalf of Transgender Plaintiff Sexually Assaulted by Prison Employees

New York State will pay $5 million to settle two wrongful death lawsuits brought by Michael and Lisa Carey, whose son Jonathan died in 2007 while living in a State facility for the disabled. Jonathan, an autistic 13-year-old, was asphyxiated and killed by a State employee while on a community outing. Two State employees have been criminally convicted as a result of Jonathan’s death.

Suit Says Man Was Arrested for Nasty E-Mail Message He Didn’t Write

An officer in the elite NYPD Antiterrorism Cyber Unit has brought a federal civil rights lawsuit against New York City for anti-Muslim discrimination.

ECBA filed a federal suit on behalf of four 10- and 11-year old boys illegally strip-searched in P.S. 186, a New York City public school. The boys were strip-searched because their teacher lost her ring.
